Swinton Estate Partners with York and North Yorkshire Growth Hub to Launch Environmental Action Programme 2025

Business owners throughout North Yorkshire will be supported in improving their green credentials thanks to a new partnership between Swinton Estate and the York and North Yorkshire Growth Hub, part of the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority.

The Swinton Estate, which includes Swinton Park Hotel, is leading the way on sustainability, thanks to a 20-year commitment to reducing environmental impact of the hotel, spa and farming businesses that populate the estate.  It will be the venue for the Environmental Action Programme 2025, which includes accredited Carbon Literacy Training and hands-on nature-based volunteering activities, run by Groundwork.

The initiative is 50% funded by the York and North Yorkshire Growth Hub, meaning that participants on the scheme will be supported as they are provided with the tools and knowledge to drive forward sustainability within their business and beyond.

Jack Colding, Business Relationship Manager for Environment and Sustainability from the Growth Hub, said: “This programme is set to simplify the complex world of sustainability, offering business owners and employees a fantastic hands-on opportunity to explore practical steps that benefit both the planet and their businesses, from cost saving to building reputation. Programmes like this show that the business community in our region are at the heart of change, working hard to deliver our target to be net-zero by 2034.”

Held at the stunning Swinton Estate, the programme offers an unparalleled setting for networking while gaining insights into the science of climate change, its effects on global and local levels, climate justice, and practical ways to reduce carbon footprints. Upon completion, participants will be certified Carbon Literate by the Carbon Literacy Trust.

In addition to training, participants will roll up their sleeves for two days of practical volunteering at Swinton Estate. Under the guidance of Groundwork’s team of nature specialists, attendees will engage in activities that restore and protect the natural environment while exploring how nature-based solutions are essential to addressing the climate crisis.

Iain Shelton, Chief Executive of Swinton Estate, said: “Sustainability is central to everything we do. When engaging with businesses, we often encounter hesitation around tackling environmental issues. This training is designed to overcome that barrier, transforming uncertainty into action.

“By blending theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience, we empower business to embrace sustainability and take meaningful steps for the environment. It’s about equipping them with the tools and confidence to drive real change.” The Environmental Action Programme 2025 is not just about learning, it’s about driving meaningful change. Together with the York and North Yorkshire Growth Hub and Groundwork, Swinton Estate is leading the charge for a greener, more sustainable future.
