Apprenticeship funding scheme opens new opportunities for employers in York and North Yorkshire

Employers across York and North Yorkshire are invited to take advantage of a new Apprenticeship Levy Transfer Scheme launched by the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority, creating new opportunities to invest in skills and support long-term business growth.

David Skaith, Mayor of York and North Yorkshire, said:

“Apprenticeships are a great way to learn the skills you need for work, at work. Helping more of our young people get the tools they need to build a fulfilling career closer to home.

“It’s great for the apprentices and the businesses, but we know the costs of training can often hold smaller businesses back from creating these vital opportunities.

“That’s why we’re backing this new scheme, which can cover all of the costs of training and assessments for eligible businesses, with applications open today.”

The new scheme forms part of the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority’s commitment to building an integrated, responsive skills system that supports economic growth across the region. By making apprenticeship funding more accessible, the scheme will help businesses develop the skilled workforce they need while opening doors for more people to begin or progress their careers through apprenticeships.

Sara Jeffs, Director of People and Transformation at York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority, said:

“We are pleased to open applications for funding businesses across York and North Yorkshire through our apprenticeship levy transfer scheme.

“At York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority, we are committed to creating opportunities for local people whilst also supporting local employers to invest in developing the skills they need within their workforce.

“We welcome applications from businesses that meet the funding criteria and share our commitment to creating local opportunities and building a thriving region.”

The Apprenticeship Levy Transfer Scheme will be used to help eligible employers across the region access fully funded apprenticeships, removing financial barriers and enabling more businesses to invest in developing their people.

Businesses, alongside levy-paying employers that have already committed their own levy funds, are encouraged to explore the support available. Through apprenticeship levy transfers, the scheme will support apprenticeship training and assessment costs.

By increasing access to apprenticeship funding, York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority is helping employers invest in the future of their workforce. Applications will be considered subject to the availability of funds and the published eligibility criteria. Eligible employers based in York and North Yorkshire are now invited to apply for the funding.
