Skills Bootcamps unlocking digital opportunities for businesses
A North Yorkshire business owner is boosting her brand thanks to training in digital marketing from Skills Bootcamps.
Joanne Cummings from Great Ayton runs Teesside Tangler, offering art courses which also promote wellbeing. Having felt unsure about social media and online aspects of her business, Joanne completed an Immediate Impact Skills Bootcamp in Digital Marketing.
She said: “Being somebody who was very unconfident with social media, I feel that I now have a plan, I have something to work towards. I feel much more confident about putting together a digital strategy and putting posts out there. That’s helping my business become more visible online which creates better awareness of what I do and, hopefully, creates more sales.
“I had eight Skills Bootcamp sessions over eight weeks. It consisted of in-person teaching and work to complete outside of the lessons. We looked at different platforms, a range of content and planning tools. There’s always been the offer to get back in touch with the tutor to ask questions. I’ve also kept in touch with others who were on the same course, which has helped build up a network. When you’re starting a business by yourself, it can be quite daunting, so it’s nice to have these sorts of opportunities available.”
Joanne completed her course this summer, with the in-person sessions running in Easingwold.
She added: “I was a secondary school food teacher for 30 years and unfortunately reached burnout in the autumn of 2021. I had always had a passion for wellbeing. Art was a way of delivering calm and reducing feelings of anxiety in my job for years. I set-up Teesside Tangler in December 2022, after I qualified as a certified Zentangle teacher in October of that year. The Zentangle method is an easy to learn, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images. It helps to reduce stress and creates calm.”
Joanne is planning to run new classes in North Yorkshire and Teesside in the coming months.
