This 60-minute webinar will offer attendees an introduction to the new British Standard “Suicide and the workplace – intervention, prevention and support for people affected by suicide”.

BS30480 is a world first in industry standards and is designed to take the taboo out of the subject and offer practical and accessible guidance to workplaces of all sizes. Suicide is a confronting topic that brings up uncomfortable emotions for us all, but when we look at data around prevalence and its impact on people, it becomes impossible to ignore that it is an experience existing in most workplaces and businesses, regardless of their size and sector.

The session includes a 40-minute presentation followed by an open Q&A session. Participants will be guided through an introduction to BS 30480 and supported to consider the topic of suicide as a workplace issue; to understand its relevance and potential impact within their own workplace setting and to consider the benefits of preparedness versus scrambling to respond in a crisis.

We will conduct the webinar in a gentle and respectful way, agreeing some discussion guidance at the start to ensure the wellbeing and safety of all present. The main presentation will be recorded, however the Q&A will not and it will remain a private space for discussions, thoughts and questions. Information about support organisations and services will also be available.

What you will leave with:

  • A greater understanding of the connection between suicide prevention and business resilience
  • Access to the standard and its accompanying ‘practical first steps guide’
  • Information about options for effective staff training
  • A resource pack

Who is the webinar for:

  • Every business, from large companies through to micros and sole traders.
  • In larger organisations this topic is particularly relevant to those with a remit around people, health, wellbeing and safety.
  • Workplace mental health leads and ‘champions’ looking to increase their knowledge in suicide prevention.
