Is it possible to ‘work smarter; not harder’ in farming?

This one-day course on Smart Farm Business Planning will enable attendees to have a better understanding of the recognised Key Financial and Management Performance Indicators within the agricultural industry. By building on the skills already gained on earlier ABT courses, attendees will learn how to use their farm accounts to assess and monitor the current business viability and stability and to prepare cashflow budgets and forecasts for any future business plans.
It includes presentations from agricultural accountants and bank managers giving their thoughts on sustainable farming businesses.

What will the Smart Farm Business Planning course cover?

Module 1 – Key Performance Indicators for the farmer and business associates
Understand the following terms and discover how they relate to your business:

  • Business Viability
  • Flow of Funds Analysis – where did the money go?
  • Return on Capital Employed – efficient use of capital and low costs
  • Detailed Performance Margins and Benchmarking
  • Credit Provision
  • Business Stability, Ratios, Adaptability & Liquidity

Module 2 – Creating a Cashflow Budget

  • A 10 step-by-step guide to compiling a cashflow budget for future business planning that takes into
    consideration the financial implications of enterprise change and diversification plans.

About the Provider

ABT delivers workshops that are designed by farmers for farmers.

Christine Thompson and her husband, David are tenant farmers managing a mixed farming system of 240has on the southern edge of the North York Moors National Park. She has recently created ABT (Agricultural Business Training), a company specialising in rural business skills training.  Christine has worked within farm business administration all her working life and is an experienced trainer of the same.  After selling her successful farm administration business in 2014, she concentrated on the training element of the industry and has since developed and delivered financial recording and administration courses and workshops for farm administrators, family farm businesses, rural support networks and associated agricultural companies.

This business support programme is a collaboration between the York and North Yorkshire Growth Hub, North Yorkshire Council, and ABT.

This is funded by North Yorkshire Council through the Shared Prosperity Fund. Therefore, only businesses located in North Yorkshire Council’s area are eligible to attend.
